Purpose and Mandate
Since the 2009 Business Retention and Expansion Survey our mandate has been to take action on the first 7 recommendations highlighted in the results of the survey. This strategic plan continues that mandate and purposes to do one of two actions:
- Deliver the requested service to the members
- Support and encourage the organizations that have been purposed to work on the recommendation
Business Retention and Expansion Survey Recommendations
Recommendation “1”: Hosting Seminars
- Business Management Skills
- Telecommunications Technologies
- Succession Planning
- Marketing: (Regionally, Provincially, Nationally, Exporting, & Selling To the Governments)
- Development of new Energy Sources (Green)
Recommendation “2”: Skilled Labour & Training:
- That the Morden Chamber of Commerce meet with Red River Community College and determine what steps need to be taken to enhance and develop training programs to provide labour and employees with the appropriate work skills.
Recommendation “3” : Tourism Development Training:
- That the Morden Chamber of Commerce arranges an appropriate number of Tourism training sessions with representatives from the Province of Manitoba Tourism to provide hands-on training for the development of Morden’s tourism features.
Recommendation “4”: Provision of Information Central:
- That the Morden Chamber of Commerce provide in co-operation with the applicable suppliers of information for business needs in “linking” their website with all Government Agencies and Departments.
Recommendation “5”: Meeting with Town of Morden:
- That the Morden Chamber of Commerce arrange to meet with the Mayor and Council members to review the BR+E Final Report and to discuss the following specific areas of mutual concern:
- Regionalization
- High Taxes
- Proactive Recruitment for New Businesses
- Development of Incentives to attract new Businesses
- Developing Community Support (Positive Attitude)
- Tourism Development
- Strategic Plan for Community Advertising & Promotions
Recommendation “6”
- Develop Community Advertising & Promotions
- That the Morden Chamber of Commerce develop strategic plans for the development of Community Advertising & Promotions.
Recommendation “7”
- Develop strategic Community Advertising & Promotions plans for the following Tourist attractions
- That the Morden Chamber of Commerce meets either jointly or separately to develop a strategic program for the Community to participate in the Advertising & Promotions plans for the following Tourist attractions:
- Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre
- Lake Minnewasta & Colert Beach Committee
- Downtown Historical Committee
- Minnewasta Golf Course
